Vegging Out: Naked Espresso in Sydney

Naked Espresso is Sydney’s first all-vegan cafe. All of their equipment and cutlery were purchased brand new and is only used to  make and serve vegan food. They only use soy milk which means it’s the only milk that’s been used with their coffee machine and you can order a coffee without having to specify soy milk. Plus their coffee and hot chocolate is organic and fair trade certified.

The menu has grown since they first opened and it now includes specials and lots of gluten free options, making me a happy gleegan (gluten free vegan). My favourite thing to order is the Mix ‘n’ Match which includes toast (wheat or gluten free) plus any four breakfast items. My usual is  gluten free toast with home cooked baked beans, grilled tomatoes, sautéed mushrooms and hash browns – yum!

The buckwheat pancakes are delicious and come with fresh strawberries and maple syrup. Another popular meal is The Morning After giant fry up which includes vegan sausages as well as the new B.L.A.T that comes with vegan bacon.

Naked Espresso also make their own vegan pies, Primal Pies. There are 3 different flavours and they’re now available as a pie floater, served with mushy peas and gravy.

If you’re just after coffee and a sweet treat try one of the vegan cakes made on site, my pick is the Toffee Almond Custard Cake.

Naked Espresso is a great place to spend a Saturday or Sunday morning, enjoying delicious vegan food.

My pick for sweet treats is the amazing Vanilla Slice. I’m not a vegan and I’m yet to find a non-vegan vanilla slice that tastes even half as good!

Another fun dish to try is a mock-Canadian breakfast if you like – get the fantastic buckwheat pancakes with a side of bacon and hashbrowns and extra syrup! Nomalicious :)

My heart sinks whenever I see those mass produced hash browns on my plate. The buckwheat pancakes look beautifully home-made, you’d think they could do the same for a round of grated potato?

It was my first time in Naked Espresso this morning and I was impressed. I had the big fry up that featured sausages, hash browns, beans, pumpkin, toast, mushrooms and spinach. It was extremely tasty. Disclaimer: my partner Josh was the cook there this morning… lol. It was tasty and good value. And I’m not just saying that to stay in his good books.

Sean, I agree with you, Josh’s food is delish :)

Wow, thanks for the great write up! Glad to see that we’re doing our job in providing you with hearty vegan fare to start the day!

another outspoken female – We’ve been working to make the hashbrowns in house in a way that would be timely & delicious & feasible in the setup we’re working in, but are yet to find a way! We’ll continue using those mass produced but vegan hash browns until we’ve perfected our own :)

I hope to see you in for breakfast soon – don’t hesitate to say hi and give us your thoughts!
